Meeting Svend - OZ1DYI

After having heard him on 20 m with a very strong signal I determined that just around the corner there is another OM QRV from Rømø. It is Svend OZ1DYI who has his summer QTH here on the Island just a couple of kilometers away. On the link at QRZ.COM you can see his QTH.

We had a very pleasant talk just in front of this house.

It is always a pleasure to meet OMs face to face and to exchange the points of views and the experience made as a HAM.

Thanks to Svend and his wife for this very nice afternoon on
Rømø!

OZ7VEA active some hours a day

It seems that the propagation is as worst as last year from EU-171.

Nevertheless we are active as much as possible and so far managed to make around 200 QSOs. The farest DX was JU85TTC (Mongolia) today. We've heard some JA stations as well but no contact was made.

Insight into the shack of OZ7VEA

This gives a small view on the working condition. I urgently need to build up the 20 m loop but the weather conditions currently do not allow this.

OZ7VEA is on the air

After a pleasant journey we arrived on the island during the afternoon.

The first antenna lifted up is a FD3. The trees around the house are not very high, so the antenna isn't either. Nevertheless the first QSOs were made on 20 m in PSK31 and RTTY.

Next step is to build up the loop for 20 m and start working in SSB.

Useful tool to get wire antennas up

Some hams around (DM2JUF, DH7VK) found a very useful tool to get wire antennas up into the trees. It's quite easy to get the wire up to 10 meters and more using it.

I prepared it by connecting a thin string to the ball which then is used to lift up the wire.

Preparation is ongoing

I used the weekend to prepare the equipment:
  • Installed all needed software on a MSI Wind netbook
  • Cleaned and tested the fibreglas telescope tower
  • Checked the cables etc.
  • Run some test QSOs with my TS 570 DG in SSB, PSK31 and CW
So far all seems to work pretty well and there are a couple of things only to finish next week.
